Eligibility Criteria for Community Engagement Services
To qualify for participation in the Community Engagement program, individuals must meet the following criteria:
- Have an active Community Living Waiver through Virginia Medicaid
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have a documented diagnosis of an intellectual and/or developmental disability (ID/DD)
- Demonstrate a need for support in developing or maintaining community-based skills
- Be able to benefit from community integration and social participation opportunities
- Have goals that align with building independence, communication, and daily living skills in a community setting
- Participate safely in community activities with the support of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs)

How can I obtain a waiver?
To begin the process, contact your local Community Services Board (CSB) and request a waiver screening. Additional details and guidance are available on the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services website.

- Community Living Waiver (formerly the Intellectual Disabilities Waiver)
- Building Independence Waiver (formerly the Day Support Waiver)
- Family and Individual Supports Waiver (formerly the Developmental Disabilities Waiver)
